Laser Tattoo Removal: Move on With a Series of Treatments

The reasons for removing a tattoo are as numerous as there are designs. Over the course of time, people change. The artwork may lose its appeal, or the symbolic statement the tattoo made may no longer agree with the wearer. “Ink” can be a painful reminder of the past or a statement of youth where some people may even wish to incorporate their old art into a brand new design. Whatever the reason, MetroDerm, P.C. in Atlanta, GA,  can help you fade or remove unwanted tattoos. Using modern technology, our experts can help you reverse the decisions of your past and restore your skin. This treatment is available at the Johnson Ferry/Perimeter location.

Q  YAG laser removal is one of the safest and most effective tattoo removal procedures. Several treatments are required (three to six) six weeks apart and the difficulty of removal depends on a variety of factors including the age, location, depth, and colors.  The Q YAG laser has made it possible to remove tattoos for any number of reasons.

Statistics

Did you know that almost 40% of the US population between the ages of 18 and 40 have at least one tattoo? Of the 40%, it is estimated that up to 40% have some regret and want to remove their tattoo. For years, removing this permanent ink was extremely painful, scarring, expensive, and not readily available. Things have changed dramatically with the Q YAG laser.

About the Procedure

During the removal process, our experienced technician will apply the Q YAG laser light to the affected area of the skin. Using controlled bursts of focused light, the laser breaks apart the ink pigments in the skin. The broken ink particles will then be absorbed into the body and removed through the bloodstream. Depending on the size and type of tattoo, as well as the pigments used, the tattoo can normally be removed over the course of only a couple of sessions.

Sessions are generally quick and relatively painless. Most patients describe the mild discomfort of Q YAG laser tattoo removal less painful than the process of getting the tattoo in the first place, and many can endure the treatment without the use of anesthetic. Regardless, our experts can assist you with any discomfort you may experience.

Aftercare

Patients may experience some skin irritation, light bleeding, and blistering of the area, but sensitivity should last only a few days. Sun exposure should be avoided. The Q YAG laser does not scar and does not leave a halo or “ghost tattoo.”

When body art is no longer meaningful or appropriate for you, it’s time to move on.  A series of laser treatments with the Q YAG laser is effective and efficient for tattoo removal.  Contact us to make an appointment at our Johnson Ferry/Perimeter location.  We serve Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, Roswell, Decatur, and all of North Atlanta, Georgia.
